Mikko Pajunen competes in Sanremo Rally in the weekend. The rally is part of the IRC and the last event of the Italian championship. Pajunen has been driving in Italy with his co-driver Kaj Lindström in Renault Twingo R2 this season. Now the duo have the opportunity to seal the cup title. They lead the second-placed Fabrizzo Andolfi (ITA) by 13 points.

- At the moment we are leading the championship. Our aim is of course the title, so we have to drive accordingly. We would seal the title by winning, but we have to see how the others are doing and count the points as we go, says Pajunen.

Pajunen has been driving well in Italy. He has won his class in four out of the six events he has participated. The Finn from Jyväskylä has been investing in driving abroad and especially on asphalt this year. Sanremo Rally is his tenth rally abroad this season.

- There are some demanding roads here. On Friday night there is a 44-kilometre stage which is driven in the dark. Its going to be quite a stage. We're setting off in good spirits on the back of a win in our class in a test event. We are aiming to drive fast and seal the championship title, says Pajunen.

Two weeks ago Pajunen won D'Appennino Rally which he treated as a test event. He clocked seven top times out of eight stages.

The rally in San Remo starts on Friday and carries on until Saturday. Some of the stages are familiar from WRC as San Remo hosted a WRC event until 2003.
