16.6.2012 Mikko Pajunen in dramatic IRC rally which claimed a life "Sad and tough event"
Mikko Pajunen participated in the IRC event in Sicily, Italy over the weekend. The competition came to a sad end when Gareth Roberts, the co-driver of the Irish driver Craig Breen, died in a crash. The event was called off after the accident.
- This is a sad and tough situation. We are all taken aback by what happened. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. I knew him well. Its a shock to lose someone you knew, said Pajunen.
The accident happened on the first stage on Saturday. Thus Fridays result in the Targa Florio Rally were made permanent. Pajunen and his co-driver Kaj Lindström were second in the R2 category in their Renault Twingo Evo and fastest of the Twingo pairs.
- I am feeling pretty low after all thats happened. All I can say about Friday is that it went alright driving wise. At first we were sliding with the softer tyres, but after changing harder tyres for the last stage we got more speed and everything started working better.
Pajunens season continues in mid-July in a Finnish Championship event in Kouvola. There he will be driving in Tommi Mäkinen Racing's Subaru.
